Cascade Brewing Kentucky Peach

What the brewers say

“Kentucky Peach is a blend of sour wheat and quad ales aged in bourbon and wine barrels for up to 16 months with fresh, Northwest-grown peaches. This limited project offers flavors of ripe peaches and warm bourbon with hints of oak and a light malt sweetness.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Interesting contrast of sweet stone fruit–like peach and plum and smoky dried fruits such as raisin, prune, and fig. Floral hops with a lot of bourbon-soaked wood. Slight caramel and vanilla oak. Smoke and ashy in a good way with a lot of alcohol evident.”

Flavor: “Quite acidic, sour, and tart. Peach, green apple, pear. Minimal funk. Wine-like dryness. Vanilla/caramel oak that is a bit astringent/woody. The wild flavors are fun and complex, and the dryness on the finish really enhances the fruit and builds on the peach aftertaste.

Overall: “An interestingly complex and unique mash-up of styles and flavors. Overtly sour and tart, but fruity enough to notice. The wine and bourbon characteristics serve to balance the complexity of the bases.”
